Thanks to Michelle Alexander and the NY Times

Thank you for your January 19 publication of Michelle Alexander’s column, “Time to Break the Silence on Palestine.” For years, almost all of American mainstream media has unfairly refused to print leveled criticism of Israeli policy. Professor Alexander’s column was rooted in moral clarity, basic fairness, and human dignity. She made the important connection between what is happening today in Palestine and what humanity has witnessed in Apartheid South Africa and the Jim Crow American South. Alexander’s column has the potential to be a turning point in the important discussion surrounding Palestine. For too long, Palestinians have been simplistically painted as subhuman savages unworthy of the most basic of human rights. Alexander’s nuanced and precise critique presents Palestinians as a people who, like any other, deserve dignity and self-determination. Israel, through its racist policies and practices, has delayed that inevitable justice for over seventy years. Consider this letter a point of emphatic support for both Professor Alexander and the New York Times, as we all aspire to instill decency, integrity, and truth into the question of Palestine.
